Activities

Below are examples of activities in our club. For more information about current activities please email info@cowichanvalleynewcomers.com.

Arts About Town:

This group’s focus is on keeping the CVNC membership informed about upcoming live theatre, musical events and interesting films taking place in the Cowichan Valley. The group will facilitate the CV Newcomers with shared interests in particular performances in attending together and/or meeting before or after the event(s) for dinner or drinks.

Bridge:

We have various bridge groups, from beginners to more advanced players.

Cycle Paths:

Bike groupThe bike group is open to all members interested in cycling with either classic bikes or e-bikes. When active, ride information will be sent out by email and the newsletter.

Corks, Caps & Quaffing:

Corks Caps & Quaffing (CCQ) is dedicated to providing further education to its members about wines, beers, ciders and spirits. Events will encompass visits to wineries, breweries and distilleries as well as events in members’ homes. This is an enjoyable and social way to learn more about the subject—and of our area.

Host a TGIF:

This event is one of the most popular of the CV Newcomers Club. TGIF is held once a month on a Friday evening at a fellow member’s home. A different member volunteers each month to host a TGIF with attendees bringing an appetizer and beverage to share. The social gathering is well-known for its camaraderie in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

Lunching Out:

This event is your chance to get to know a variety of different restaurants in the Valley.  The organizer selects a different locale each month and includes the information in our monthly newsletter. This is a good opportunity to get out, discover new eateries, and meet other members in a relaxed atmosphere.

Book Clubs:

Book clubWe have several chapters of a very active book club, who socialize and discuss that month’s book. Some chapters prefer reading fiction books, while other chapters prefer to read about history, autobiographies, biographies, science, technology, travel and good fiction. One group is open to men and women, and others are women’s book groups.

Hiking:

The hikes are on the second Wednesday of each month and all members can join the hike. Each month the planned hike will be announced in the newsletter. Most hikes are 2 to 3 hours long. Many hikers go out for lunch as a group afterwards. Members are welcome to invite guests; however, guests will be required to sign a waiver.

Walkie Talkies:

Walking GroupThis group meets for a less strenuous hiking or walking activity – relatively flat surface of about 2-3 km and social time weekly or every other week depending on the members’ preference and the weather. The location varies each time, to accommodate the distances of the members and to enjoy the wonderful scenic opportunities that Cowichan Valley has to offer those gentle hikers.

Crazy Crafters:

This group meets twice monthly to work on their work on their crocheting, knitting, cross stitching, quilting, embroidery, and other handicrafts.

Literary Puzzlers:

This group meets monthly to swap books and puzzles and just socialize. Not a book group but a friendly morning coffee group. If you have any books or jigsaws you would like to exchange, bring them along, or just come by — everyone welcome.

Golfing:

This is a seasonal activity, and will be announced in the newsletter when it is active.
